Conserving the Land – Sunset Ranch Hawaii

Ironically, while I was working at Brush Creek Ranch in Wyoming this past summer, I wrote an article about Sunset Ranch in Hawaii. The piece started as an article  for Green Magazine about my totally rad friends Tim and Ye and their green inspired wedding that was held at Sunset Ranch. Unfortunately, after I sent the article in,  the editor of Green wrote to tell me that they were suspending publication due to lack of advertising. Major bummer.  Luckily, the editor at Innov8 was interested in it, but she wanted me to rewrite it as more of a profile of Sunset Ranch. So I did just that, but I felt terrible that Tim and Ye were no longer a part of the article! Given that they are two of the most inspiring, grounded and humble people on the planet,  they were actually relieved not to be in the spotlight and were just happy that Sunset Ranch would receive some publicity for the good work they are doing.

It has been a goal of mine to be published in an in-flight magazine so I’m happy I finally accomplished that! Hopefully the first of many! I actually wrote something for Innov8 a couple years ago and they didn’t print it because they eliminated their “Giving Back” section, so I feel like it has all come full circle 🙂

While I was in Hawaii a couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of attending a Benefit for the Country, a fundraiser for the North Shore Community Land Trust, held at Sunset Ranch. It was the first time I’d been on the property and it really is a magical place. I think it’s so important to continue to support  these organizations that work to preserve the natural beauty and character of the North Shore. We were definitely spoiled at the event with dinner catered by one of my favorites, Town Restaurant and lots of great musical performances by Justin Young, John Cruz, Paula Fuga and Jack Johnson.
