Mud Makes for a Good Day: Hiking Ka’au Crater

Diamond Head and Kokohead are the most traversed and well known craters on Oahu. The third, and lesser known Ka’au Crater is tucked behind Palolo Valley and can only be accessed via a challenging hike. That’s a Heck of a Day

College basketball coach Jimmy Valvano gave this speech at the ESPY awards eight weeks before he died of cancer. It is one of my favorites and I watch it whenever I need a reminder about living fully every day. “To me, there are three things we all should do every day. We should do this every day of our lives. Breathe Deep Every Day

It is not enough to fight for the land; it is even more important to enjoy it. While you can. While it’s still here. So get out there and hunt and fish and mess around with your friends, ramble out yonder and explore the forests, encounter the grizz, climb the mountains, bag the peaks, run the rivers, breathe deep of that yet sweet and lucid air, sit quietly for awhile and contemplate the precious stillness, that lovely, mysterious and awesome space. ~Edward Abbey
